Arizona clinical authorization

Volunteer Health Services Registration

Dentists who are not licensed in Arizona must receive the appropriate authorization from the Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners before providing live-patient care. This Board process is separate from Brighter Way course registration.

6–8Weeks before the course
14Days per calendar year
2Year registration cycle
  1. Confirm your Brighter Way course and dates

Complete your Brighter Way course registration first so you know when and where you will provide supervised clinical services.

  2. Start 6–8 weeks before the course

The Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners strongly encourages applicants to begin 6–8 weeks before volunteer registration is needed.

  3. Gather every required document

Prepare the Board application, a completed Statement of Citizenship with supporting proof, an NPDB Self-Query, and verifications of every current and past professional license.

  4. Request license verifications

Contact each state or jurisdiction where you hold or previously held a license. The licensing agency must send its verification directly to the Arizona Board; online profiles, wall certificates, and wallet cards do not qualify.

  5. Submit the application yourself

The Board requires the applicant—not Brighter Way or another representative—to submit the application and attest that the information is accurate.

  6. Receive approval before treating patients

Do not provide clinical treatment until the Arizona Board has issued the appropriate authorization. Keep a copy of the approval and provide it to the Brighter Way team before the course.
